SCS supplies Newark with ESD and static control protection, supplies, and products. Formerly under the 3M's static control business they were amongst the earliest pioneers in the science and technology of detecting and mitigating the micro damage to micro components caused by tiny amounts of electrostatic discharge. On January 2, 2015 3M's static control business rebranded as SCS following their acquisition by Desco Industries.

The acquisition further expands Desco's footprint in the growing ESD industry as it continues to develop and market high-quality ESD control solutions. The sale included 3M's barrier and static shielding packaging, workstation products, instrumentation, and electronic vacuums. The operations will continue in the Sanford, North Carolina facility under the new brand, SCS.
